In our game of the week, we asked you on our website who you thought would win and 62% of you picked Katy Taylor. The 38% of you who picked Tompkins ended up proven right. Katy Tompkins Falcons showed why they deserved to climb up our Top 25 Rankings all the way to #11. They dominated the previously undefeated Katy Taylor Mustangs.
This game was expected to be a close battle with the winner likely moving into our top 10 in the state. It was not close. Marquis Shoulders led the way for the Falcons on offense, carrying the ball 9 times for 155 yards 2 touchdowns, but it was the defense that dominated for Tomkins. The Mustangs came into this game averaging 36 points per game, but the Falcons held them scoreless. It was perhaps the best defensive performance that we have seen in 6A so far this year.
Katy Tompkins now sits atop the District 19-6A standings at 3-0 in District play, tied with the Katy Tigers. They’ve shown they need to be considered as one of the top 10 teams in the state and they could give the Katy Tigers a battle. They’ll look to improve to 5-0 as they face Katy Morton Ranch next week. The Katy Morton Ranch Mavericks are 1-3, coming off three straight losses and a tough 13-14 loss last week to Katy Seven Lakes. Katy Taylor will look to get the offense back on track as they play at Katy Mayde Creek. The Mayde Creek Rams are 3-1 and just suffered their first loss of the season too, 17-21, a week ago to Katy Cinco Ranch.
