Our #2 team in the state of Texas, the Austin Westlake Chaparrals, displayed their powerful offense and unrelenting defense again. Coming off a 53-7 win over Schertz Clemens, Westlake put up 50+ again, beating Hewitt Midway, 56-0.
Quarterback Cade Klubnik had a great game. Backed up at their 10 yard line to start the game, he led the team 90 yards, capping it with a pass to Nicholas Watanabe for a 14-yard touchdown. Westlake never looked back. Klubnik ended with passing for 266 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also ran for 49 yards. All those impressive stats, and he did not even play after mid-way in the third quarter when the Chaparrals went to their backup. The defense was impressive. Westlake Sacked Midways QB, Garrett Childers, 7 times.
Austin Westlake has a good chance of being 8-0 when they play their last game of the regular season against another top 10 team in the state, Lake Travis. They will be the favorites to win the Class 6A Division II state championship again. They play Austin Del Valle next week. The Midway Panthers will look to rebound vs South Grand Prairie next week.
