District 6-6A is another district that is competitive from top to bottom. Last year, six of its nine teams finished at .500 or better.
Several programs are on the up. Rock Hill just earned its first playoff berth in school history, while Plano East had back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in eight years.
Don’t forget about Allen either. The Eagles just ripped off a regional final run last fall.
With so many storylines to keep track of, here’s what to watch for in District 6-6A.
Allen Eagles
Head Coach: Lee Wiginton (4th season; 29-10 record)
Last Season: 13-1; 8-0 in district (Lost to North Crowley in regional final)
Returning Lettermen: 27 (6 returning starters on offense/7 on defense)
Allen Key Players and Storylines

With the leadership the Eagles have back this season, head coach Lee Wiginton is expecting another strong campaign.
Allen will have a new starting quarterback, but it is stacked at the skill positions. Allen has quite the duo at receiver with speedster Caleb Smith and 6’4″ Carter Harris who is a threat on 50/50 balls.
At running back Jaden Hambric, who “runs with an attitude to hurt you” and Lyndon Spriggs return after both scoring double digit touchdowns a year ago.
The question marks offensively are mainly up front where three of last year’s five starters graduated. However, the Eagles still have quite the leader in Colorado State commit Jacob McRae who returns alongside Ethan Villarreal.
Opposing quarterbacks will have a tough time throwing against the Eagles with lockdown corners Kai Wheaton and LeBron Bauer patrolling their top receivers. And if anything slips by, the Eagles have a true leader at safety in Henson Amaechi and a great open field tackler in fellow safety Trey Roberson.
In the front seven, linebacker Ja’Prei Wafer (150 tackles, 23 TFLs) is the “leader of the defense” while defensive tackle Devin Palmer and defensive end Josh Shaw make their presence felt in the trenches with their high motors.

— Victor Gonzales, Jr. (@Coach_Gonzales) December 11, 2024
With talent back on both sides of the ball, Wiginton wants his group to be the “toughest hardest working and most competitive in the state.” If they can attack each day with that attitude, he believes they’ll have a chance to play into December this season.
McKinney Lions
Head Coach: Nate Leonard (2nd season; 6-5 record)
Last Season: 6-5; 5-3 in district (Lost to Guyer in bi-district)
McKinney Key Players and Storylines

Leonard and his staff will have to do some re-tooling offensively this season, especially after quarterback Jeremiah Daoud transferred to Allen and most of their leading other skill talent graduated.
The offensive line is in good hands with center Johnny Allen and guard Matthew Ehsan, who can also play some fullback.
Defensively, the Lions don’t return a single one of their nine first or second team all-district selections last year due to graduation and transfers. Defensive tackle Ryder Soderman will be their anchor in the trenches while they’ll look for junior Cason White to be among the players that steps up at linebacker.

This has been an offseason of roster turnover for the Lions. McKinney will need to take advantage of its two non-district contests as it looks to get all the pieces in place to make another playoff push in district play.
McKinney Boyd Broncos
Head Coach: Stu Johnson (1st season)
Last Season: 3-7; 2-6 in district
Returning Lettermen: 25 (5 starters on offense; 7 on defense)
McKinney Boyd Key Players and Storylines

It’s fitting then that defense should be the strong suit of this Bronco football team with seven starters back on that side of the ball.
“Excellent defensive end” Oliver Bryant (31 tackles) should pair well with Chaston Stephens, the strongest Bronco in the weight room, on the defensive line.
At linebacker, Tristan Hall (100 tackles, three TFLs) led the Broncos in tackles last season, while junior Ugo Anosike (60 tackles, eight TFLs) is ready to pop in 2025 after a promising sophomore year.

The Bronco coaching staff is also expecting strong campaigns from defensive backs Hudson Drake (41 tackles, one INT) and Yar’Von Evans (90 tackles), who will take snaps on offense too.
Offensively, center Edgar Carrolejo provides the Broncos have a sturdy foundation to build around. Their skill positions were hit hard by graduation, but BJ Dixon (296 receiving yards) and Peyton Korlevich (171 receiving yards) appear ready to take on bigger roles at receiver this season.
Marcus Johnson is a candidate to take over at quarterback. He can play defensively too at safety, so the Bronco coaching staff is still working on deciding how best to utilize his versatility ahead of this fall.
They also have a secret weapon on special teams in kicker Jeremiah Hernandez, who didn’t miss a kick a year ago.
Across the board, Boyd has a number of players who have shown flashes during their time playing for the Broncos. Now, Johnson and his staff believe this group is ready to take that next step as Boyd looks to get back to the playoffs for the first time in four years.
Plano Wildcats
Head Coach: Cody White (3rd season; 7-13 record)
Last Season: 5-5; 4-4 in district
Returning Lettermen: 25 (2 returning starters on offense;5 on defense)
Plano Key Players and Storylines

Still, head coach Cody White likes the talent he has ready to step into those vacant roles.
No such help is needed at running back with physical runner Chance Culley (1,139 yards and nine touchdowns) back to lead the Wildcat backfield along with promising sophomore Kameryn Brown (113 rushing yards), who saw some snaps a year ago.
The line of scrimmage is where Plano will need to develop early on in the year. Senior offensive lineman Connor Washington is the lone returning starter up front.
Keep an eye on sophomore quarterback CJ Smith. He’s a dual threat, who the Wildcat coaching staff is quite high on.

Defensively, again, Plano will need some players to step up in the trenches.
The secondary is a lot more set with safeties Braelyn Alexander (53 tackle), who was a first team all-district selection last year, and Bradley Brown (30 tackles). Junior cornerback Nuri Simms is back after suffering an injury last season, while Kaedyn Brown can contribute as a defensive back or a wide receiver.
Senior Joe Camacho (51 tackles) will be a great leader for the Wildcats at linebacker.
Despite the turnover, White thinks this team can reach heights similar to last year’s squad. After suffering two district losses by three points or less last season, the Wildcats are eager to get over the hump and back in the playoffs for the first time in three years.
Plano East Panthers
Head Coach: Tony Benedetto (4th season; 15-16 record)
Last Season: 6-4; 4-4 in district
Returning Lettermen 23; (5 returning starters on offense and 5 on defense)
Plano East Key Players and Storylines

There’s high hopes for this year’s team too with the Panthers returning their leaders in rushing, receiving, interceptions, sacks, and tackles from 2024.
Offensively, Jackson Howard (498 receiving yards and seven touchdowns) brings plenty of versatility with his ability to play receiver, tight end, running back, or quarterback. Running back though looks to be in good hands with Travis Agee (1,297 rushing yards and seven touchdowns), who was a first team all-district pick a year ago.

Elsewhere, Benedetto and his staff will be tasked with setting in three new starters on the offensive line and a new quarterback as well.
On the other side of the ball, safety Judah Thompson is a quarterback’s nightmare. He’s a true playmaker who had five interceptions in 2024. That’s not all quarterbacks have to worry about either. Explosive lineman Javon Rogers is ready to make an impact again after leading the Panthers in sacks last season.
With stars back on both sides of the ball, the goal for this year’s group is clear. Benedetto expects his team to be back in the postseason after coming up just one game short in 2024.
Plano West Wolves
Head Coach: Tyler Soukup (7th season; 14-47 record)
Last Season: 0-10; 0-8 in district
Plano West Key Players and Storylines

They should be able to keep their opponents on their toes with dual threat quarterback Jordan Grant and powerful running back Tobi Adeoye (682 all purpose yards and three touchdowns) both returning.
Defensively, senior linebacker/nickel Josh Padek is the player to watch after earning an all-district honorable mention in 2024.

The backfield duo the Wolves have should help them keep the ball moving in 2025. They’ll hope that will be the key to a breakthrough in the win column this fall.
Princeton Panthers
Head Coach: Ervin Chandler (5th season; 8-32 record)
Last Season: 2-8; 1-7 in district
Princeton Key Players and Storylines

The good news is that Panther offense should be back on the prowl this season with gunslinging quarterback Marcus Flowers (3,202 passing yards and 31 touchdowns) leading the way. Tackles Lane Martin and Javian Smith should help stymie opposing pass rushes. Both were second team all-district selections in 2024.

Speedy Jordan Mosley (870 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns) is the standout in the receiving corps, while Collin Fannin-White (200 receiving yards and two touchdowns) and Mayan Washington, who also played running back last year, (222 rushing yards, 100 receiving yards) should see plenty of touches as well.
For all the struggles the defense had last year, it should be improved this year with a number of key players back. It’ll start with a linebacking corps with seniors Nick Rodriguez (86 tackles) and Giovanni Ayala (52 tackles). Mosley (58 tackles, one INT) also goes both ways and is a playmaker from his safety position.
With Flowers back to man the helm at quarterback and Princeton’s three leading tacklers returning defensively, the Panthers are in a position to take a step forward in 2025 as they embark on their second season of 6A football.
Prosper Eagles
Head Coach: Tyler Moore (3rd season; 19-5 record)
Last Season: 8-3; 7-1 in district (Lost to Coppell in bi-district)
Returning Lettermen: 40 (7 returning starters on offense; 8 on defense)
Prosper Key Players and Storylines

Last year’s District 6-6A Offensive Player of the Year quarterback Braeden Imhoff is back to command the offense. He’ll have a brick wall of protection in front of him. Tackles Zaden Krempin and Bryce Gilmore, center Sean Stover, and guard Will Endicott all have Division I offers. The only starter that doesn’t have a Division I offer yet is guard Garin Goracke, and he “played well in two starts last year.”

Out wide, the Eagles are going to make cornerbacks run with receivers Lathon Latiolais (793 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns) and Dallas Boozer (682 receiving yards and seven touchdowns). Both ran 10.8s in the 100-meter dash during track season.
Prosper will have some force on its defensive line too with USC commit defensive tackle Jake Johnson. Behind him, Fahd Allen is an “elite athlete at outside linebacker,” while Tyson Stiggers can play safety or corner on the back end. Stiggers is a true playmaker with his ball skills and tackling ability.
Head coach Tyler Moore is a little concerned about his team’s depth, but its talent is off the charts. The Eagles have the pieces to compete for a district title and potentially play into December in 2025.
Prosper Rock Hill Blue Hawks
Head Coach: Mark Wilkinson (4th season; 12-19 record)
Last Season: 6-5; 5-3 in district (Lost to Hebron in bi-district)
Rock Hill Key Players and Storylines

Now, Rock Hill has to replace its entire backfield, but it does have a great duo at receiver with next-level talent Dominic Saidu (344 receiving yards) and fellow senior Bryce Allen (459 receiving yards). The offensive line also has a couple of key pieces back with senior tackle Carter Crubaugh and junior center Trevor Janak.
Opposing offenses will have to be careful throwing in the direction of cornerback Courtney Lawson Jr. He had five interceptions as just a sophomore last year. He’ll be joined in the secondary by Allen, who can go both ways, and fellow ballhawk Donyae Williams (53 tackles, three INTs).

Max Wrobel (61 tackles) will be a senior leader at linebacker, while junior Riley Hinds continues to turn heads, picking up a Texas Tech offer earlier this summer. Senior defensive end Keegan Brinton (49 tackles) is Rock Hill’s player to watch off the edge.
Quarterback is the biggest question mark heading into this season with not a single player on the Blue Hawk roster who attempted a pass last season. But with playmakers found at pretty much every other position group, Rock Hill will have its sights set on a second-straight playoff berth.
