Region I vs. Region II
DeSoto– 3
Klein Collins– 1
Advantage: DeSoto
Reasoning: DeSoto just beat Cedar Hill for the second time this season as one of the top contenders looks for their first state title. That said, they have to make the trip from DFW to NRG Stadium in Houston to face a red-hot Klein Collins team. This will be the longest trip that the Eagles have made since they went to Midland. How will DeSoto respond?
Meanwhile, the Tigers have found ways to win when they need to. They’ll have most of the Houston crowd behind them and D’Anthony Doyle will present the Eagles plenty of challenges. We still like DeSoto, but wouldn’t be completely surprised if Klein Collins pulls it off.
Region III vs. Region IV
Katy Cinco Ranch– 1
Cibolo Steele– 3
Advantage: Cibolo Steele
Reasoning: First things first, there was a Katy team who made it to the state semifinals. As it turns out, we picked the wrong one. The Cinco Ranch Cougars have rode a stout defense and some good fortune to make it to their second state semifinal.
Now, they will face a Cibolo Steele team on a roll after dominating Churchill last week. Cinco Ranch stuffed Cy Ridge’s rushing attack minus Trelon Smith, but will have another stiff test when they face Brenden Brady, Xavier Martin, and a very good Knights offense. After just missing out on the state title last year, we like Steele to advance back to AT&T Stadium to play for the title.
