Highland Park continued their impressive season with a 41-28 victory over Frisco Lone Star in the 5A Division I regional final Friday at Ford Center. Despite a rocky start, the Scots displayed resilience, advancing to the state semifinals for another shot at the title.
Sophomore quarterback Buck Randall overcame two early interceptions to lead Highland Park’s offense with 237 passing yards, three touchdowns, and 124 rushing yards and a score. After the slow start, Randall connected with Cannon Bozman for a 30-yard touchdown, sparking a dominant stretch where the Scots scored on five of their next six possessions.
Highland Park’s defense also played a pivotal role. Jack Morse and Jack Steed each snagged interceptions to stifle Lone Star’s potent offense, led by quarterback Karece Hoyt. Hoyt finished with 386 total yards and three touchdowns but struggled against Highland Park’s disciplined defense. Running back James Lancaster added 111 rushing yards on 17 carries to support the Scots’ balanced attack.
Lone Star entered the game with one of the area’s most explosive offenses, averaging 47.7 points per game. However, Highland Park’s defense held firm, allowing just 28 points and creating key stops throughout the game.
With the win, Highland Park improves to 13-1, extending its streak of wins by double digits to 10 games. They’ll face the winner of the Aledo-Denton Ryan matchup in the state semifinals. Frisco Lone Star ends their season at 12-2, falling just short in their playoff run.
