Meridian High School Assistant Coach Russ Flournoy Builds Culture for 2025

At Meridian High School, football is about more than Xs and Os—it’s about values. At the THSCA Coaching School, assistant coach Russ Flournoy emphasized the importance of community, character, and consistency in shaping the Yellowjackets for the 2025 season.

Flournoy, a key member of Meridian’s staff, talked through the small-school advantages—tight-knit teams, multi-sport athletes, and deep bonds. He explained how building leadership from the inside out and reinforcing fundamentals in every drill sets the foundation for success.

“The kids are accountable to each other,” Flournoy noted. That sense of ownership has been a catalyst, helping the Jackets grow even amid a lean talent pool.
