South Oak Cliff Shocks North Shore in 41-31 Showdown

Austin Roof Inspection

All the talk leading up to Friday night didn’t matter once the pads started popping. South Oak Cliff showed it belongs in the same breath as Texas’ elite, knocking off North Shore 41-31 at Alonzo Williams Stadium.

A year ago, the Mustangs blanked SOC 38-0. This time, the Bears made sure the rematch looked very different. Behind a balanced attack that racked up nearly 500 total yards, SOC built a 35-19 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Quarterback Jayden Williams was efficient through the air, tossing three touchdown passes, while the ground game delivered chunk plays all night long. Mikail Trotter rushed for 194 yards and two scores, and Levon Morton added 153 bruising yards to wear down North Shore’s defense.

North Shore wasn’t finished. Quarterback Kaleb Maryland threw three touchdown passes, including a pair to La’Damian Defreeze, and ran for two more scores. His late rushing touchdown with under two minutes left cut the lead to 35-31, putting the pressure squarely back on SOC.

The comeback attempt ended on the ensuing onside kick. SOC recovered, added a late score, and slammed the door. It was a statement win for the Bears, who proved last year’s shutout loss was old history.

For SOC, it’s another reminder of how far the program has come. State titles in 2021 and 2022, a runner-up finish in 2023, and now a season-opening win over one of the biggest names in Texas high school football. Friday night showed the Golden Bears are built to chase hardware again in 2025.
