District 7-2A Bans Rio Vista From Postseason Play

The Rio Vista Eagles picked up a Week 1 win over Hico, but the bigger news came off the field. The District 7-2A Division I executive committee has ruled the Eagles ineligible for the 2025 postseason.

At the heart of the decision were allegations tied to recruiting, with questions raised about players from the same 7-on-7 club moving into the district. The DEC voted unanimously to make several athletes ineligible and ban the team from playoff contention this fall.

No evidence pointed to Rio Vista’s coaches being directly involved, so no staff penalties were handed down. The Eagles, now 1-0, had been considered a district title contender in preseason chatter.

Rio Vista is expected to appeal the ruling to the UIL State Executive Committee. Until then, the playoff picture in District 7-2A remains wide open.
