Texas high school football did it again.

The Lone Star State finished No. 1 in the 2026 NFL Draft with 33 former Texas high school players selected, marking the fourth time since 2020 that Texas has led the nation in total picks. Florida finished second with 27, while Georgia followed with 22. California had 19, and Ohio added 11.

That kind of consistency says everything.

Texas continues to produce elite talent at every position, from quarterbacks and wide receivers to linemen, linebackers, and defensive backs. The state also extended its reputation for depth, proving once again that talent is not limited to a handful of metro areas or powerhouse schools.

The first-round headliners were Jordyn Tyson of Allen, selected by the New Orleans Saints, and Jadarian Price of Denison, selected by the Seattle Seahawks. Their selections also kept alive Texas’ streak of producing at least two first-round picks every year since 2009.

But this weekend was bigger than two names.

It was 33 reminders that Friday nights in Texas still build Sunday players.

Some states produce stars. Texas produces stars and depth.

Thirty-three selections from every corner of the state is another reminder that no place develops football talent quite like Texas.
