Stacey Martin is headed home.

Big Spring ISD announced Monday that Martin has been hired as the Steers’ next athletic director and head football coach. Martin is a 1993 Big Spring High School graduate and returns to his alma mater with more than 28 years of coaching experience.

Martin most recently served as Midland High’s defensive coordinator and boys head track and field coach. He plans to finish the track season at Midland before fully transitioning to Big Spring. His resume also includes head coaching stops at Coahoma, Alpine, Luling and Slaton.

The move brings a familiar name back to the program. Martin was an all-state defensive back at Big Spring before playing football and running track at Sul Ross State. His father, Greg Martin, also coached for the Steers, adding another layer to the homecoming.

Martin replaces Cannon McWilliams, who stepped down after leading Big Spring since 2019 to become the head coach at Crane ISD. He inherits a Steers team coming off a 5-5 season and moving down to Class 4A Division II next school year.
