Hayes Hackney is officially cleared for his next chapter at Argyle.

A District 3-5A Division II executive committee met Tuesday to determine Hackney’s varsity eligibility for next season and approved him by a 4-2 vote. The standout quarterback transferred from Prosper Walnut Grove to Argyle this offseason after moving into the district.

Argyle head coach Todd Rodgers said Hackney is now living in the Argyle ISD attendance zone and enrolled at Argyle. Hackney also received a clean Previous Athletic Participation Form from Walnut Grove, his former school.

Hackney told The Dallas Morning News the move was connected to his father’s job.

On the field, this is a huge addition for Argyle. As a sophomore at Walnut Grove, Hackney threw for 3,164 yards and 37 touchdowns while completing 68 percent of his passes. He helped lead the Wildcats to a 12-1 record, a district title and a regional semifinal appearance.

Now he joins an Argyle program that went 12-2 last season and has long been one of the state’s most consistent winners.

Funny how football works sometimes. The quarterback Argyle had to stop in the playoffs is now wearing red and black.
