Jerry Gardner has been named the new head football coach at Round Rock McNeil High School.
The news was first shared by Matt Stepp of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football on X. Gardner takes over the Mavericks after serving as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Wylie East, where he helped guide a high-powered offense during consecutive 10-win seasons.<
Round Rock ISD names Wylie East OC Jerry Gardner as the new HFC at Round Rock McNeil

Gardner brings head coaching and coordinator experience from both Texas and Oklahoma. He previously served as head coach at Glenpool High School in Oklahoma and has also worked in Plano ISD. A Lone Grove, Oklahoma native, Gardner played and studied at the University of Central Oklahoma.
He replaces Scott Hermes, who left McNeil to become the head coach and athletic coordinator at Leander Glenn. Hermes helped revive the Mavericks, leading them back to the playoffs in 2023 after a 19-year drought. McNeil also earned a milestone win over Austin Vandegrift in 2025.
Gardner now steps into a tough District 25-6A that includes Round Rock ISD rivals, plus Westlake and Lake Travis.
