Royse City Key Players and Storylines
Royse City is hoping an experienced defense and a highly talented junior class might be its ticket back into playoff contention this fall. The Bulldogs started last season 4-0 but faded once they got into district play.
This year, Drew Colvin is most excited about his defensive line anchored by junior defensive end Kingston Rodgers, who will be a force off the edge (46 tackles, 18 TFLs). Juniors will rule the secondary too with safety Teagon Woods (94 tackles), who started all ten games last year, and versatile cornerback Brandon Derrough-Harris, last year’s leader in interceptions with two.

Offensively, the Bulldogs head into 2026 with a brand new backfield, but whoever settles in at quarterback won’t be lacking options in the passing attack. Junior receiver Bryson Arney will be the “primary playmaker” after averaging over 100 yards per game last year, while Kollin Heath can take the top off of any defense. He had 936 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns at 4A Caddo Mills in 2025.
Up front, Colvin expects junior right tackle Kurene Ma’o to be a “dominant force on the offensive line” this fall.
A year ago, the Bulldogs struggled to contain their District 10-6A opponents, allowing 41.5 points per game in district. They’ll hope those seven returning starters can make a difference as they look to contend for their first playoff berth since 2022.
