Mansfield Key Players and Storylines

After two years away, Mansfield finds itself back in the District of Doom. Going head to head with Duncanville, North Crowley, Waxahachie and more isn’t for the faint of heart, but these Tigers are young and hungry.

Head coach Greg George believes this year’s group has the potential to be even stronger than the one that made the playoffs for the second-straight year in 2025. The skill positions have clear leaders on offense with junior running back Raymond Weaver (602 rushing yards and three touchdowns), who has impressed with his breakaway speed, and three-year starter receiver Cole Williams (401 receiving yards and two touchdowns). Their experience will be big for new starting quarterback Brandon Ellis. He steps into the driver’s seat after starting on JV as a sophomore last year.

Defensively, the Tigers have another three-year starter in powerful defensive end Jordan Brandon (48 tackles, 15 TFLs). Linebacker Ola Olawepo (32 tackles, 11 TFLs) is another pass rushing threat, while versatile defensive back Darius Moore, Jr. (40 tackles) is Mansfield’s most talented player in the secondary. He can play both corner and safety.

The foundation is there for this Mansfield team to have success. However, they’ll need their 11 new starters to grow up quickly if they want a third-straight trip to the playoffs because there will be no margin for error in one of the toughest districts in the state.
