Chaparral Key Players and Storylines
Another year, another new challenge for Chaparral. The Bobcats move up for the second-straight alignment and will play 6A football for the first time ever this fall.
Head coach Tyrell McCrea believes a tough 5A district the past two years should have helped prepare his guys for the jump to 6A. Still, the Bobcats will be relying on a lot of underclassmen.
That includes offensive lineman Jonah Talivaa, who started all ten games last year as a freshman. He and his trenchmates will hope to give returning starting quarterback Bryson Coleman (1,035 passing yards and ten touchdowns) time to operate. Receiver Jaylen Moultrie is poised for a bigger senior season after blossoming late last year, while fellow senior Marcus Majors finished just behind him in receiving yards in 2025.

Defensively, the Bobcats have another pair of stellar sophomores in lockdown cornerback Malik Steele and versatile defensive end/linebacker Marcello Brewster. Defensive tackle Shaun Fuller will provide some experience in the trenches as a three-year starter.
A freshman group that went 8-2 last year will help provide some much-needed depth for Chaparral, but with so many unproven players, the Bobcats will be embracing an underdog mentality in 2026. They hope that chip on their shoulder will be the difference as they look to push for their first winning season in school history.
