Klein Cain Key Players and Storylines

Klein Cain didn’t quite have its usual roar a year ago. The Hurricanes finished 4-6 and missed the playoffs for the first time since their inaugural season in 2018.

James Clancy and his staff will know their defense can’t give up 44 points per game again this year if the Hurricanes are to rebound. The secondary should be improved this year with proven tackler Christian Redeo (65 tackles), speedy defensive back Michael Elhindi (41 tackles), and cornerback AJ Carroll (33 tackles and two INTs). In front of them, the front seven has some reloading to do after graduating three all-district players.

Offensively, the Hurricanes averaged 36 points per game last year, and they’re ready to run opponents into the ground again this year. Gone is a 1,000-yard rusher, but senior Eyan Johnson (780 rushing yards and seven touchdowns) and junior Earl O’guinn (404 rushing yards) are more than ready to step up. Both are Division I prospects. The Hurricanes also have to replace their quarterback, but the receiving corps has the talent to help ease in the new starter with sure-handed senior Cooper Karns (646 receiving yards and five touchdowns) and the size of 6’1″ senior Tyson Freeman (264 receiving yards).

After last season’s struggles, Klein Cain is ready to prove some people wrong this year. The defense will need to take a step forward and the offensive skill players will need to perform as expected if the Hurricanes are to get back into playoff contention in District 15-6A.
