Matt Nally Discusses Melissa Football and Hudl

At the 2026 THSCA Coaching School and Convention, Texas HS Football sat down with Melissa head football coach Matt Nally through its partnership with Hudl. Nally said he is entering his 23rd year in coaching and arrived at Melissa 10 years ago after stops at Cayuga and Frankston. Since then, he has watched the community and program grow from a small 4A school into one of Texas’ larger 5A programs.

Melissa reached the state semifinals in 2025 before losing to South Oak Cliff. The Cardinals now move from 5A Division II to Division I. Although Melissa graduated considerable production, Nally expects experienced seniors to step into larger roles. His offseason focus is “building a leader before an athlete” as the Cardinals prepare for a region featuring DeSoto, Highland Park and Frisco Lone Star.

Hudl plays a central role throughout Melissa athletics. Nally said coaches use it to distribute game plans, teach film study, prepare players mentally and create focused recruiting highlights. He praised Hudl for listening to coaches and providing solutions, adding that Melissa “couldn’t function without Hudl.”

For Nally, the mission extends beyond victories. He wants the program to develop leaders and prepare players for life after football.
