Dickinson Key Players and Storylines
The Gators are chomping at the bit after their best season in a decade. Dickinson advanced all the way to the regional final before falling to eventual state champion North Shore.
This year, experience is down with just eight returning starters, but the talent is high. Quarterback Lorenzo Aguirre (3,410 yards and 43 touchdowns) is the type of player that can elevate a whole team. He’s the defending District MVP, and Snelson believes he’s a “top five quarterback in the state.” His receiving corps is a firework waiting to pop with explosive players Jayse Washington (783 all-purpose yards and ten touchdowns) and Ja’Marion Payne leading the way.

Defensively, the Gators expect to be stout in the trenches with four-year starter defensive tackle Chase Lewis and “great pass rusher” defensive end Braeylon Bradley coming off the edge. Junior cornerback Royce Bimage is a “do-it-all” athlete, who is attracting interest from several Power Four programs.
Every year, Snelson sets the expectation of winning a district title, practicing on Thanksgiving, and pushing for a state title game appearance. Last year, the Gators achieved two out of three of those goals, playing into December. This year, they’re out for an encore performance.
