Dobie “won’t scare anyone getting off the bus this year,” but head coach Daniel Fitzmorris believes his “guys are ready for anyone.”

Despite graduating 14 starters from last year’s team, a talented junior class and a sophomore class with some special skill talent is more than ready to fill the gaps on this Longhorn roster.

The offense is all about getting after it on the ground in Dobie’s wing-T offense. They’ve got a trio of talented backs to lead the way. Junior Adrian Taylor (507 rushing yards and nine touchdowns) is starting to attract Division I interest with his top-end speed. Alongside him, fellow junior Tyler Owens (303 rushing yards) is an “electric playmaker”, while sophomore David Harris is one of those high-potential players coming up through the pipeline.

5’10”, 310-pound offensive lineman Achilles Rostro, a three-year starter, will help pave the way for the running game. When Dobie does turn to the air, they’ve got senior quarterback Jalen Miles (502 passing yards and four touchdowns) ready to run the offense after starting seven games last year, while 6’2” Nolen Thomas (396 receiving yards and two touchdowns) has proven himself to be a reliable target.

Defensively, the Longhorns are starting from scratch with just one returning starter. Linebacker Orlando Gomez (23 tackles) and defensive back Dakarai Parker (18 tackles) have some experience after contributing a year ago. Up front, senior defensive end RJ Robinson (10 tackles, one sack) and junior Jordyn Thomas are ready to make the jump into the starting lineup.

The junior class has gone 16-5 at the subvarsity level the past two seasons. Fitzmorris’ belief in this group is so high that he believes they have what it takes to win Dobie’s first playoff game since 2004 if the junior class “develops like they think they will.”
