Elsik Key Players and Storylines

Elsik averaged more than 23 points per game last year, its best offensive output since it won seven games in 2015. However, the Rams found themselves on the wrong end of shootouts in several games after their defense allowed 44.3 points per game.

The Rams lose their do-it-all quarterback, who earned Co-Offensive Newcomer of the Year in 2025. Still, the Rams have the weapons to do damage through the air. Senior receivers Horatio Washington, the returning district Newcomer of the Year, and Ontario Washington both always find a way to get open, while junior running back Christopher Dismuke will be expected to lead the ground game.

In the trenches, the Rams have a solid foundation on both sides of the ball. Junior 5’11”, 290-pound offensive lineman Curshawn Johnson is a returning second team all-district selection.

Then on the defensive line, the Rams will expect to cause problems. Junior defensive end Koi Reed is a disruptor off the edge, while the sky is the limit for 6’3″, 206-pound sophomore Goodluck Okafor, who is attracting Division I interest despite having yet to play a varsity snap. In the secondary, the Rams will also have experience to lean on with safety Ja’Seer Colbert (27 tackles, one INT) and cornerback Uchenna Abonyi.

Elsik will have some new district opponents this year as the Houston ISD and Spring Branch ISD schools join 20-6A. Quarterback is a huge question mark that Shea Rodriguez and his staff will need to find an answer for if they want to repeat last year’s offensive production, but with the pass rush and receiving talent the Rams possess, they should be able to cause some problems on the field this fall.
