Fort Bend Austin Key Players and Storylines
During his time as an assistant on the Cypress Springs staff, Chris Wilson helped snap a 19-year playoff drought. Now, he’ll look to revitalize his alma mater after replacing Trey Herrman.
Austin hasn’t reached the playoffs back in 2013. If they’re to sniff the top four in 2026, the defense has to improve after allowing 54 points per game a year ago. They do have some players to build around. Safety Tim Baez (48 tackles) will lead the charge as Wilson and his staff implement a new scheme this fall. In the front seven, nose guard Edwin Nosa (14 tackles, three TFLs) will be a physical presence in the trenches, while the Bulldog coaching staff believes linebacker Javier Winston is in for a breakout season with his combination of coverage skills and physicality.
Offensively, the Bulldogs put up the third most yardage in the district last season, a mark they believe they can replicate this year. Trent McCoy (1,213 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns) is a big downhill running back who will be the focal point of the offense. His presence should help senior Luke Chapman (190 passing yards, 378 receiving yards), who is also a standout pitcher for Austin, settle into the starting quarterback role. Up front, 6’1”, 270-pound offensive lineman Moaz Adelmotilib allowed just two sacks a year ago and is heading into his third year as a varsity starter.

Wilson has made it clear he doesn’t see this as a rebuilding effort. He and his staff want to create plenty of buzz around the Austin football program as they look to compete for the fourth spot in district right away this season.
