DeSoto Shows Sportsmanship in Post-Game Prayer

One week after DeSoto drew national attention for a pregame handshake controversy, the Eagles were part of a much different moment Friday night.

Following Allen’s 50-6 victory, players from both teams gathered together at midfield for a post-game prayer.

The scene quickly drew praise across North Texas and offered a strong contrast to the conversation surrounding DeSoto just days earlier. After a week dominated by criticism, apologies and debate over sportsmanship, the Eagles closed their next game standing alongside their opponent in a moment of unity.

Allen had just handed DeSoto a difficult 50-6 loss, but once the game ended, the rivalry and scoreboard were briefly set aside. Players from both programs gathered together, showing the kind of respect between opponents that high school sports can still produce even after a physical and emotional game.

For DeSoto, the moment also provided a more positive image following a difficult week in the national spotlight. The Eagles could not change what happened before the previous game, but they could control how they carried themselves moving forward.
