Coppell did not waste much time making itself comfortable in District 7-6A.
Coming off a 68-7 win over Keller Timber Creek, the Cowboys jumped all over Richardson Berkner and led 35-0 by halftime on the way to a 42-14 win. Berkner entered after a tough loss to Hebron.
Carter Zingelmann was the engine again. He threw for 252 yards and four touchdowns, all in the first half, while adding a 40-yard rushing score. Jacob Anene caught three passes for 151 yards and two touchdowns, including scores of 82 and 59 yards.
The tone was set almost immediately when Madden Montague intercepted Berkner on the second play of the game. Coppell cashed that in for a touchdown, then kept stacking big plays before halftime. By the time Berkner found some rhythm, the Cowboys already had the game under control.
Zavier Kichan added 86 rushing yards and a touchdown for Coppell. Berkner got 145 rushing yards from Damonte Nelson and late scores from Dontrell Coleman and Jameson Brown.
Coppell moves to 3-1 and 1-0 in district. Next up is Richardson Pearce. Berkner falls to 1-3 and heads to Lake Highlands.
