Pearland RB Royce Swan Talks Breakout Year and Recruiting

Royce Swan Breaks Out for Undefeated Pearland

Pearland junior running back Royce Swan is making the most of his expanded role in the Oilers’ offense.

On Episode 144 of the Texas HS Football Podcast, Swan joins host Taylor Arenz to discuss his breakout season, recruiting journey and Pearland’s undefeated start.

Swan describes his running style as aggressive but patient, leaning on improved agility, vision and the ability to make defenders miss.

That development was on full display in Pearland’s huge Week 6 win over previously unbeaten Manvel. Swan rushed for 196 yards and three touchdowns as the Oilers scored 41 points against a defense that had allowed just seven all season entering the game.

Despite defenses increasingly game-planning around him, Swan says he welcomes the challenge. He credits Pearland’s offensive line, quarterback, and receivers for helping create one of the state’s most productive offenses

Swan also discusses his growing recruitment and the importance of leadership. More than anything, he points to Pearland’s chemistry and trust as reasons the Oilers have started 6-0.

Their mentality remains simple: stay focused, take each opponent week by week and, as Swan says, “don’t lose your edge.”
