The Georgetown Eagles opened their season with an easy victory over the Brewer Bears 49-28. The Eagles started the game sluggish, allowing Brewer to take the opening drive 75 yards without a single pass, capped by a one-yard plunge by Senior Bryce Miller. The Bears showed early that they were going to be one dimensional which would be their downfall in the end.

The Eagles struggled on their first two drives, handing the ball over on a punt and a fumble, but were able to close the first quarter with a 3-yard touchdown run by Junior Eric Anderson. The score tied 7-7 after one.

In the second quarter the Eagles were able to pull out to a 14-7 lead, but a 91-yard kickoff return by Christian Caldon pulled the Bears back to even. The Eagles were able to get the “Beau Show” fired up with Senior Beau Corrales catching 8 passes and two touchdowns in the first half. The Texas State commit Corrales finished the game with 15 catches, 191 yards and 3 touchdowns. Senior Caden Leggett also brought down a touchdown in the second quarter. Georgetown closed the first half up 28-21.

Caden Leggett opens the second half with a 82-yard kickoff return for a touchdown taking the score to 35-21. The Georgetown defense held the Bears to just 7 points in the second half and shut down any kind of Brewer passing game. The Bears finished with -2 yards passing, electing to stay on the ground for most of the game.

Eagle Senior Chandler Herman threw 31 of 37 passes for 424 yards and five touchdowns showing that he will be a force in district 19-5A. While Bear running back Curtis Taylor ran for 106 yards on 11 attempts.
Georgetown will need to work on their special teams play and cut down on the turnovers, but look to go deep in the playoffs. Third year coach Wade Griffin will need to help Brewer find some sort of passing game or they will have a tough time playing from behind.

1-0 Georgetown faces 1-0 Hays next week while 0-1 FW Brewer takes on 0-1 Weatherford.
