In tonight’s NFL action the New York Jets will take on the Buffalo Bills. Of course here at TexasHSFootball.com we love to recognize those that have played their high school ball in Texas and in tonight’s game the New York Jets have one lone ranger with that distinction on their roster.

Former Midlothian High School quarterback Bryce Petty will be gearing up as one of the backups to Jets incumbent starter Ryan Fitzpatrick. Petty was selected in the 4th round by the Jets in 2015 following a tremendous career at Baylor University.

In high school he played under then head coach Robby Clark, who now coaches at Palestine. Petty was a nationally ranked quarterback and was listed at No. 25 by Rivals.com, No. 35 by Scout.com and No. 54 by ESPN.com. He was also ranked by the Dallas Morning News as one of their Top 100 State Recruits as well as the Fort Worth Star-Telegram’s State Top 100.

As a sophomore in 2006 he was named the District 15-4A Offensive Sophomore of the Year in which he threw for 979 yards and four touchdowns. He followed that up with obtaining first-team All-District recognition as a junior. He compiled 2,042 passing yards and 16 touchdowns while rushing for 101 yards and five touchdowns.

He missed time in his senior year due to an injury, but still put up respectable numbers. He had 1,507 passing yards and four touchdowns. He matched his rushing touchdown total from the previous year with five to go along with his 166 yards on his way to second-team All-District 16-4A honors.

The latest depth chart available from the New York Jets has Bryce Petty listed as third. He is listed as out with a right shoulder injury and did not participate in practice this past week. Nonetheless when one of Texas’ own make it to the NFL, it’s a great sight to see.
