On this fall night, it was business as usual for the Southlake Carroll Dragons as they defeated the Lewisville Fighting Farmers 49-7. Lewisville got on the board first on a six-yard touchdown from Alabama receiver commit Tyrell Shavers from quarterback Jarvis Brooks to give the Farmers (3-3, 1-2) an early 7-0 lead.

The play that changed the game was a fumble by Shavers on a bubble screen that Southlake (5-1, 3-0) recovered at the Lewisville 10, then two plays later they took a 14-7 lead on a 10-yard catch by Jack Johansson.

“The game is momentum, and going back to our first game we didn’t have momentum so that was a learning experience for us and that’s in the culture of us to capitalizing on turnovers and we just did that tonight.” Southlake head coach Hal Wasson said about his team tonight.

Southlake went on to score on five consecutive possessions and put this game out after a score on the first possession of the second half making it 35-7

“That’s a good football team and they are a hot team so we knew it was going to be a tough win, but it was nice to get that score coming after the half.” Wasson said.

There was a big battle between two top recruits, between Shavers and Southlake DB/WR Robert Barners who is committed to Oklahoma.

“I love going against a guy like (Tyrell) Shavers, we met last year in Oregon at a camp and have a good relationship so it was a lot of fun to go against him,” Barnes said of tonight’s battle. “Even though he got me with that catch in the first quarter, I had more yards than him so I’ll bring that up when we talk next.”

Barnes was responsible for three touchdowns tonight, two receiving and one touchdown and 113 total yards rushing and since he has been inserted into the offense in week two, he’s changed the dynamic.

“He’s given us a deep threat we didn’t have before and its really opened up the rest of the offense. It’s been huge for us to have him out there.” Senior defensive back Zion Sales said.
