There must be some good home cooking at home, because the Houston Texans are a completely different playing at NRG Stadium. The team is a perfect 5-0 at home for the first time in their franchise history, and it’s a good thing they are since they are 0-3 on the road. The Texans beat the Detroit Lions 20-13 on Sunday heading into their bye week.
The Texans continued their quick starts at home getting out to a 14-0 lead and right before half looked to make it at least 17-0 if it wasn’t for Brock Osweiler’s weekly interception that he is known to throw. With less than a minute left Osweiler tried to connect with Deandre Hopkins, but was picked off by Johnson Bademosi, which the Lions capitalized on and turned it into three points before half.
With an injury depleted receiving corps the Texans pounded the Lions on the ground in the second half. The Texans barely broke the 100-yard rushing mark, but 76 of those yards came in the last two drives late in the fourth with the Texans looking to kill the clock.
No matter how ugly the team my play at times the Texans are still 5-3 and leading their division and that’s where you want to be at the midway point in the season.
“I think it’s good to have a winning record at the halfway point. I think there is a lot of season left. I think we all just have to keep trying to improve,” Texans head coach Bill O’Brien said.
O’Brien has been seen on different occasions yelling and getting after players, coaches and refs, and today was no different. O’Brien could be seen yelling towards special teams coach Larry Izzo, and having to be held back by staff members.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about… I don’t remember that one bit,” O’Brien said on the incident. “There’s conversations that happen on the sideline and that’s just kind of the nature of the game.”
The Texans will take on division foe the Jacksonville Jaguars in two weeks. If they need to work on anything in the bye week it’s figure out how to win on the road; four out of the next five games are on the road, and that stretch will determine hoe the final third of the season goes.
