A bid for perfection, a No.1 seeding and a district title are all on the line this Friday when Colleyville Heritage (6-3, 5-1) and Richland (9-0, 6-0) meet up for the regular season finale.
The Birdville Fine Arts/Athletic Complex will surely be bustling with energy and excitement as the
winner of this game will be proclaimed the District 8-5A champion.
Both teams have locked up playoff bids, but Richland has an opportunity to end its season undefeated with a district title. Richland also will be looking to avenge their defeat to Heritage last year when they were shutout to a tune of 61-0 making it two years in a row they had lost to Heritage.
Heritage on the other hand is looking to put its hands on the district title despite having a three-loss season with their lone defeat in district coming at the hands of Grapevine. A win for Heritage would prove the resilience of this team despite loses to Grapevine, Euless Trinity and Aledo who are all stout opponents. A three-way tie among Richland, Heritage and Grapevine could however be the case if Heritage were to win and Grapevine defeated Birdville.
Senior quarterback Cam Roane will be leading Heritage offensively as he has thrown for 1,996 yards on the season and 21 touchdowns. His two favorite targets have been junior Ke’von Ahmad and sophomore Kameron Brown who account for 699 yards, ten touchdowns and 459 yards, five touchdowns respectively.
Richland senior quarterback Trae Self will be the opposing quarterback who now owns Richland’s single-season passing touchdowns record with 36 and of course will be looking to add more to it. Defensively for Richland, Dashaun White will demand the respect of the Heritage offense as he has 85 credited tackles which accounts for a 10.6 tackle-per-game average and 3 sacks on the season.
