Friday night wrapped up an impressive season for the Arlington Colts. Despite a game riddled with mistakes from both teams, the Colts pulled off a 28-21 victory over the Sam Houston Texans. In the first quarter alone, there were six turnovers between the two teams.
The very first play of the game was an interception that led to a Sam Houston touchdown. This tilted the momentum heavily in Sam’s favor, and they capitalized by taking a two-possession lead before the Colts came on strong, scoring a single touchdown in the first quarter and visiting the end zone three times in the second quarter.
Arlington led 28-14 at halftime and would not score again for the duration of the game. The Sam Houston defense completely shut out Arlington in the second half. The third quarter was entirely scoreless for both teams, and Sam Houston had the only second half score midway through the 4th quarter. Arlington had 436 yards of total offense while Sam Houston had only 167 yards. Each team threw three interceptions. Owen Harris, Jacob Dollar, and Damarcus Allen each visited the end zone for Texan touchdowns. Caelan Day connected with Rashad Anderson twice for Colt touchdowns. Ronterrius Williams and Qaklon Fore each rushed for Colt scores. Arlington now leads the all-time match up with Sam Houston 34-13.
The game concluded with Arlington fans chanting, “Playoffs, playoffs, playoffs!” followed by “Abilene, Abilene, Abilene!” With the playoff berth confirmed and a hard-earned victory to conclude their regular season schedule, the Colts’ senior night will certainly be one to remember. Arlington suffered only two district losses to Martin and Mansfield. The Colts will meet the Abilene Eagles at Shotwell Stadium in Abilene for the first round of playoff competition. Date and time are still undecided.
