Oh man, this is truly the best time of the year. There’s nothing truly like the playoffs. The emotion of seasons and careers potentially coming to an end makes the action absolutely electric. A change to the stakes mean a change to this column too, all the talk of playoff hopes and potential matchups is gone. It’s win or go home, survive and advance.

Best Celebration

Hebron got the best of Plano East, and their players absolutely lost their minds. What an emotional scene from an emotional game.

Picture Of The Night

From all the way out in Abilene we have one of the more haunting images of patriotism that you’ll ever see.

#WeirdFootball Score Of The Night

Hondo 56, Devine 28

You know, sometimes it’s common to see these types of scores in the playoffs. With the way the playoffs function, sometimes teams that barely win anything get in. This matchup featured a 1-9 team vs a 9-1 team. The kicker? The 1-9 team won. Try and tell me these playoffs aren’t one of the best tournaments in sports.

Five Teams That Impressed

Teague

Most thought that the Teague Lions were good, I just don’t think that anyone truly expected this. Teague blew out traditional power Franklin, 42-20.

Beaumont West Brook

West Brook took home a big victory over Longview, securing their first playoff win since 2010.

Richland

It’s rare to get a win over the South Hills Scorpions these days. Fortunately for Richland, that’s exactly what they did, coming back to put the Scorpions away and win a Bi-District trophy. If the Rebels can keep riding that momentum, look out.

Justin Northwest

Northwest has been historically bad in recent years. This season, they have a single loss, to Aledo, and they’ve been playing excellent football. They rallied late to stun Denton in a difficult first round matchup last night, in which Prince Mavula starred.

John Tyler

The Lions survived a late rally attempt from Lufkin, defending a 2-point conversion to win 50-49. Lufkin is a tough draw in the first round, and Cujo took care of business late to advance to the next round.

Most Interesting Matchups On Saturday

Dickinson – Alief Taylor

Oh man, this one is going to be good. Dickinson’s defense is top-notch, and Alief Taylor has an explosive offense. Both teams are 9-1, and it should be a game that goes down to the wire.

Rowlett – Coppell

I feel like both of these teams are very evenly matched when it comes to strengths and vulnerabilities. Games like that are perfect: it’s dull watching a perfect team maul a vulnerable team, but two teams that are very good most of the time yet still with some weaknesses makes for quality entertainment.
