Editor’s note: We will not be doing rankings this week, as we feel like rankings are useless once the playoffs start. Our four full-time writers will be picking the closest matchups in each region from each division in each classification. Here are our picks for 4A Division 1.
Region 1
Andrews – III
Brownwood – I
Advantage: Andrews, 3 votes to 1
Reasoning: Brownwood is sneaky good, and they’ve played a lot of close games. However, that offense from Andrews is a force, and Brownwood hasn’t seen anything exactly like it.
Region 2
Midlothian Heritage – IIII
Kaufman –
Advantage: Midlothian Heritage, 4 votes to 0
Reasoning: If not for a run-in with powerhouse Sunnyvale, Midlothian Heritage would be undefeated. Kaufman is a good team that’s up against one with something to prove.
Region 3
El Campo– II
Henderson – II
Advantage: Push
Reasoning: This is going to be one of the closest games in the state this weekend. Both teams are very good, and will provide a high level of play.
Region 4
Liberty Hill – III
Beeville Jones – I
Advantage: Liberty Hill, 3 votes to 1
Reasoning: Liberty Hill’s running attack is fantastic year in and year out. At one point it will be time to bet against Liberty Hill, but not yet.
