One of the best football players in Texas high school and college history is potentially aiming towards a comeback into football. Former Texas Longhorn and Houston Madison quarterback Vince Young signed with agent Leigh Steinberg Wednesday.

Just a week and a half after Steinberg left Young’s hometown of Houston for Super Bowl LI, Steinberg announced through social media he’d signed the quarterback who guided the Longhorns to the 2005 NCAA National Championship

Young, now at 33, spent six seasons on NFL rosters after getting selected No. 3 overall by the Tennessee Titans in the 2006 NFL Draft.

Young played five seasons with the Titans and one year with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2011.

In that span, he completed 58 percent of his passes for 8,964 yards. He threw 46 touchdowns against 51 interceptions while having up and down seasons. He’s also amassed 1,459 rushing yards with 12 touchdowns, with seven of those coming his rookie season.

He won the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2006 and was named an AFC alternate to the Pro Bowl. Young earned his second Pro Bowl honor in 2009, the same year he was named the Sporting News’ Comeback Player of the Year.

The next three seasons he spent on offseason and/or practice squads with the Buffalo Bills (2012), Green Bay Packers (2013) and Cleveland Browns (2014).

In 2016, Young publicly apologized for his arrest of driving while intoxicated in Austin.

As a junior at Texas, he won the Davey O’Brien award for the best collegiate quarterback and he finished runner-up in the Heisman Trophy voting behind Reggie Bush, who later vacated his trophy. The trophy was never given to Young.

Young has been inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame and his No. 10 has been retired by the University of Texas. As a prep, he was named the state 5A Player of the Year in 2001.
