NFL Draft 1st Round Live Blog

6:08 – In case you haven’t heard, the Browns are likely taking Myles Garrett #1 overall.

6:36 – Well if Jamal Adams was going for best looking suit that can double as floor tile, then he’s already won the award before the draft starts.

6:37 – I didn’t know that Jamal Adams was such a big fan of Pink Floyd’s “The Wall’. Because at any moment I expect to see a face come screaming out of that suit jacket. Plus, LSU’s football motto may as well be “we don’t need no education.”

6:42 – Oh by the way, during these draft updates I will be watching my favorite team, the Pittsburgh Penguins, play their blood rival, the Washington Capitals, in the NHL Playoffs.  If I stop updating you readers about the draft, it’s because I’ve lost consciousness because the NHL Playoffs takes years off of your life.

6:44 – We are 15 min outside of the official start to the draft and the Bears are already trying to mess up their draft.

Unrelated, the Browns have called up Kevin Costner to figure out how to do a successful draft while serving as the Browns GM.

6:49 – This is either a live shot of the crowd outside of the NFL Draft, or the line to boo Donovan McNabb.

6:55 – Mitch Trubsiky coming out to Drake’s “Forever” means he’s going to be a bust.

6:58 –

This quote is above ever front desk hotel in Cleveland. Because when the night is over, and you’re able to checkout, you no longer have to be in Cleveland.

7:04 – Trey Wingo saying 70,000 strong outside watching the NFL Draft. That means there are 70K people there who think they can do a better job than Cleveland’s GM. And, probably 70% of them are correct.

Everyone watching around the world is about to see Roger Goodell get boo’d off the stage at the draft. But let’s not forget who was the original commissioner to get boo’d at a draft in Philly, NHL’s Gary Bettman.

7:06 – I really loved Mel Kiper Jr. in his staring role in “Interview With The Vampire.” Too bad no one told him to turn his hair back to its normal self.

7:10 – Just remember, Cleveland fans, you once reached for a “home town” quarterback and it was Brady Quinn. Don’t repeat past failures.

7:11 – Mel Kiper wasn’t watching tape of Myles Garrett. He was watching tape on Stephen A. Smith before the draft.

7:14 – “What’s wrong with a player having other interests” asks Mel. Yeah let’s see what happens when there’s a slow start and the hot take is “DOES THIS KID REALLY CARE ABOUT FOOTBALL?”

7:16 – And, the Browns take Myles Garrett from Texas A&M with the first overall pick. Good for Cleveland for not doing the stupid thing. Maybe the tide is turning around. Maybe, just maybe the Browns will win more than four games a year.

7:18 – “Myles Garrett loves dinosaurs” Trey says about Myles. I love this kid already. That is until Week 1 when he comes in un blocked and puts out my precious Ben Rothlisberger out for 6-8 weeks. Then he can go float off on a barge to Canada via Lake Erie.

7:21 – Myles Garrett going number 1 overall means he is the first Texas A&M Aggie to be selected as the top player in the NFL Draft.

Garrett is the highest Aggie selected in the draft since 2013 when Luke Joeckel went Number 2 to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

But more importantly, after one period the Penguins and Capitals are tied at 0.

7:25 – The Bears taking Mitchell Trubisky has all the potential to be the replacement of Jay Cutler. That is in his first year taking a lot of sacks and throwing terrible interceptions. Then he’ll fit right in as a first-year starter.

7:29 – So let’s take a look at how Twitter is handling the Bears draft:

7:34 – Texas is coming in hot through three picks. As 66% of the draft are products from TXHSFB with the 49ers taking from Stanford DE Solomon Thomas.

7:36 – Tom Coughlin only came back to the Jaguars because the team had the third overall pick. Anything later in the draft and it would have been too late for him.

7:38 – Leonard Fournette going fourth overall to the Jaguars is perfect. Coughlin is going to love running in 45 times a game because A: their quarterback is awful and B: their current running back T.J. Yeldon is made of wet tissue paper.

7:40 – Such a missed opportunity here that Fournette didn’t come on stage with either a tiger or a jaguar. More animals at this draft that could do harm to the Philly crowd or Roger, please.

7:42 – ON A MORE IMPROTANT NOTE SIDNEY CROSBY STARTS THE SECOND PERIOD BY PUTTING THE PENGUINS UP 1-0! MORE HOCKEY UPDATES, CROSBY WITH ANOTHER GOAL JUST 30SECONDS LATER PENS UP 2-0! SPORTS ARE GREAT!

7:46 – The Tennessee Titans take WR Corey Davis from Western Michigan to be Marcus Mariota’s main threat on offense. And, to teach him how to properly row a boat, probably.

7:47 – Something you never want to hear from Mel Kiper “may be a bit of a roll of the dice taking him this high”. Yeah, good luck Titans fans with someone that had to post on Instagram videos of himself saying that he’s healthy. Unlike, you know, letting a professional doctor say how well he’s doing.

7:49 – The New York Jets are on the clock. I predict a lot of boo’ing and hands on heads of middle aged men with Ken O’Brien jerseys on.

7:52 – What’s missing from this Instagram post from Tom Brady is “luck into a team with an elite defense and a kicker who will be a first-ballot Hall of Fame member.”

7:54 – Jamal Adams goes sixth overall to the NY Jets. And with that pick, he now can use his suit to show what his shower tile should be in his Manhattan condo.

7:57 – If anyone is wondering why the Jets have struggled to get past the Patriots in the AFC East, this should explain it.

7:59 – I hope everyone reading this tonight can find someone the way that LSU Head Coach Ed Orgeron looked at Jamal Adams as he headed to the stage.

8:00 –

Big if true. As this could be one of the best weeks ever for former UT quarterback Colt McCoy. First he gets his number 12 back now this.

8:04 – “Philip Rivers should be happy about this pick” No, Trey, Phil is happy when all of his 14 kids are quiet and in bed by 10pm. I’m sure he’ll be thrilled to see Clemson WR Mike Williams in camp if he can catch a fade route in the end zone, and if he can babysit his kids.

8:07 – Christian McCaffrey goes 8th overall to the Carolina Panthers. And, this is the first pick where myself, as a 34 year old, finally feels old during one of these things. Just feels like yesterday watching his dad Ed playing in the Super Bowl against the Packers and Falcons.

8:12 – Pick is in for the Bengals, but no, let’s go to Christian McCaffrey live at his home instead of keeping this draft moving. This isn’t all about you, ESPN. “Extremely blessed, thankful for my mom and dad, so thankful for the Panthers” yada yada yada, let’s just keep this moving.

8:17 – Bengals take Washington WR John Ross at Number 9 as Cincinnati tries to make up for last year’s failure in the draft when they took Tyler Boyd in the second round. But hey, if it didn’t work taking a WR in the second, it MUST work when you draft one a round earlier, right?

8:20 – Hockey update, Penguins lead the Capitals 2-1 after two periods. Both superstars (Crosby for the Pens Ovie for the Caps) have all the goals in this. Hey here’s John Gruden comparing Patrick Mahomes to Brett Farve because that’s not setting the bar too high.

8:21 – Patrick Mahomes II going number 10 to the Kansas City Chiefs. He falls into a spot like Brady when he went to New England. Great defense, very good kicker, some solid skill positions. Now he just needs a LB to hit Alex Smith as he’s running out of bounds in Week 2.

8:24 – Patrick Mahomes going number 10 is the highest selected player from Texas Tech since Michael Crabtree went 10th overall in 2009 draft.

8:29 – An update on who’s been writing all of these jokes tonight.

8:31 – Marshon Lattimore goes 11th overall to the New Orleans Saints. It’s good they finally decided to dedicate some talent to their defensive side of the ball. Too bad he’s the only person that will be actively trying to play defense for the Saints.

8:37 – Houston Texans take Deshaun Watson to lead this team past the second round of the playoffs. I do think as long as Watson can make a pass more than 25 yards and finish with a QBR over 90 then he’ll be just fine.

8:43 – Arizona sitting there at Number 13, needing a quarterback, seeing the best three go right before them, feeling like Fantasy Football owner who gets stuck at Number 8 in a 12 team draft just hating having to sit there around everyone who’s happy with their picks so far.

8:56 – Derek Barnett going Number 14 overall to Philadelphia is only being met with applause from the Philly crowd because he once mentioned Reggie White in an interview and broke his sack record while at Tennessee.

9:22 – Sorry for the space in picks, but duty called and my two year old needed help going to sleep. I tried to have her watch Indy and Baltimore take two secondary players but she just kept screaming for me to turn on Daniel Tiger. Any way, Indianapolis took Malik Hooker, Baltimore took Marlon Humphrey and Washington took Jonathan Allen from Alabama who DID NOT ride onto the stage on an elephant (boo).

Also while on DVR delay Nick Bonino flew down the middle of the ice and put the Pens back up 3-2 with less than 10min left in the third period. With a small child asleep in my house now I had to revert to Jonah Hill in “Moneyball” with my silent fist pumping.

9:30 – Tampa Bay taking O.J. Howard at Number 19 and I think this is the first O.J. in the league since another famous O.J….McDuffy.

9:41 – Denver first round pick Garrett Bolles has been kicked out of five schools, and teams, and homes, and Gruden says “he plays with some snarl.” Plus he’s had drug arrests in his past and has apparently cleaned up his act. Now he will keep his emotions in check while trying to block against Kahlil Mack.

9:43 – You all can worry about how your team did tonight. All I care about is right here.

9:45 – BIG IF TRUE

9:55 – From here until the Cowboys pick at Number 28 we will be on Taco watch. #TacosForCowboys.

10:07 – Cleveland’s second first-round pick stays on defense and is met with a diluted response from Browns fans. Jabrill Peppers goes to Cleveland which means Taco is still on the board for Dallas at 28. #TacosForCowboys

10:09 – Let’s not allow the Falcons trading up with the Seahawks push out that Atlanta blew a 28-3 lead to the New England Patriots.

10:16 – Also, Buffalo’s pick has been in for the last two minutes, BUT NO LET’S GO TO COMMERCIAL INSTEAD! For the love of god, ESPN, Move. This. Along.

10:20 – Okay, here we go, Dallas. Cowboys are up and all reports are in that they’re taking Michigan DE Taco Charlton. This is the moment we’ve been waiting what feels like 15 days for but it has only been about 3 1/2 hours.

10:27 – Potential last posting for the blog as we can shut it down with the Cowboys taking Taco Charlton. Now, tomorrow, they must go grab Michigan TE Jake Butt. Only then can they truly win the draft and lift the curse of Quincy Carter. #TacoButt
