Just hours after graduating from Dallas Carter High School, an 18-year-old was killed and two others were injured after police say they were shot after they were breaking up an argument. Former Dallas Carter football player LeDajrick (LD) Cox was killed early Sunday morning in Irving after police say he was trying to break up an argument.
According to KDFW-TV, police say that a girl was being cat-called by a group of suspects driving a white Kia Optima and Cox was trying to diffuse the argument outside a 7-Eleven in Irving.
Police say that as Cox and his group of friends drove away, the vehicle had followed behind them, pulled up next to the car and fired shots in the car.
The three victims were taken to a local hospital, where Cox later died. As of Sunday night, one of the victims remained in the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The third victim was treated and released according to The Dallas Morning News.
Cox played receiver at Carter and had earned honorable mention all-district honors this past season for the Cowboys. He had graduated earlier Saturday night and had signed to play football at Navarro Junior College back in February. He was also a standout track runner for the Cowboys and had recently competed at the UIL State Track Meet in Austin.
Per KDFW-TV, a vigil service will be held at Carter High School on Monday night. Anyone with any information regarding the suspects or the vehicle seen on surveillance video is asked to call Irving Police.
UPDATE 6-30-17 11:00 AM: The Police have an arrest in relation to the murder.
