Anyone who saw Ed Oliver play last year isn’t surprised by the landslide of preseason awards that he’s currently receiving. The young but explosive defensive tackle has found his way onto not only one but two lists in the month of July, and it might not end there.
Oliver has received honors from Althon Sports and the Sporting News, and many other publications have yet to release their picks.
The sophomore was absolutely devastating in his freshman campaign, racking up 19.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, and three forced fumbles. The makeup of the Cougars will be different in 2017 with the departure of head coach Tom Herman and a significant chunk of their team lost to graduation or the NFL, but Oliver is a stalwart force that can be relied on. The Cougars will need him to be excellent in the fall as they break in new pieces all along the team.
