3-Star Michigan DB Commit German Green Says Playing At DeSoto Prepares Him For Next Level

DeSoto defensive back German Green watched from the sidelines as his Eagles were amid a win or go home situation at the Texas 7on7 Championships a couple weeks ago. A minor shoulder injury forced the three-star Michigan commit to become a spectator as DeSoto made it as far as the second round in the Consolation Bracket, but Green doesn’t envision the 2-3 tournament record as something the defending 6A state champions should worry about, largely due to personnel issues.

In addition to Green’s injury, his brother and fellow Michigan pledge, Gemon, was in Oregon for The Opening Finals, while wide receiver Lester James wasn’t active, as well.

“We had a few players missing and we had to make last-minute changes and stuff like that so we couldn’t click,” Green told TexasHSFootball.

With 7on7 in the rearview, Green’s focus has shifted towards an attempt at repeating as state champions in 2017 and furthermore, suiting up for Michigan following his final high school effort. He expects the former to prepare him for the latter.

“At DeSoto, we prepare each other for college so everybody that comes from DeSoto, we’re going to be ready to go to college and compete,” Green said. “Playing down here in Texas is like college already. It’s great.”

What playing at a 6A Texas power can’t quite exactly provide is a resemblance of the atmosphere at The Big House. Although Green and the Eagles will certainly be in the high school limelight next season, Green agreed that playing in front of approximately 110,000 fans in Ann Arbor will be a bit different than 10,000 at Eagles Stadium.

“It is [going to be different], especially at Michigan.” Green said. “It doesn’t get any bigger than that.” Speaking of bigger, bulking up is on Green’s short progression checklist prior to his arrival in Ann Arbor.

“Faster and bigger,” Green said of what he wants to improve before becoming a Big Ten athlete. “I want to get bigger.”

As far as what Green brings to the table in concerned, he compared his game to a former Big Ten standout who was selected in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft – Iowa’s Desmond King.

“I play like a lot of people. I can hit and I can really cover,” Green said of how he’d describe his game to fans that may not have seen him in action yet. “Desmond King; I can cover like him. I make tackles but I don’t boom people like that.”

The 6’2, 168-pound Michigan pledge is ranked as the nation’s No. 102 cornerback and the No. 162 player in Texas, per 247Sports Composite.
