A familiar face from the Dallas defense in 2016 will be staying in the Lone Star State. As first reported by Todd Archer of ESPN and later confirmed by David Helman, linebacker Justin Durant has re-signed with the Cowboys on a one-year deal.

Durant was a solid contributor for the Dallas defense last season, playing in every game and starting six. He finished with with 54 tackles, one sack, six quarterback pressures and four passes defended. He has spent three of the last four seasons with the Cowboys after spending 2015 as a member of the Atlanta Falcons.
The linebacker also gives the team some much-needed insurance given the number of free-agent departures on defense and the uncertainty at the linebacker position. Jaylon Smith and Mark Nzeocha are coming back from knee surgery, while Damien Wilson’s status remains uncertain after being arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on July 4.
The Cowboys opened training camp on Wednesday with the rookies reporting to Oxnard, California. The veterans report to camp on Saturday.
