Watch List: Copperas Cove (2-2); Midland Lee (3-1); Mansfield Timberview (5-0); Duncanville (3-2); Temple (3-2); Arlington Lamar (3-1); EP Montwood (3-1)
Analyzing The Region: Depending on how the match ups and the divisional set up take shape, DeSoto, Southlake Carroll, Cedar Hill, Denton Ryan and Euless Trinity are all headed for a major collision course in the playoffs in one way or another and when they do collide, it will be one of the most epic and anticipated match ups of the season. That said, the depth of the region also allows for teams like San Angelo Central, Mansfield Timberview, Hebron and Justin Northwest to create havoc and throw a giant monkey wrench into anyone’s forecast. Buyer beware when it comes to Region I.
Region II | ||
Team | Rec | |
1 | Allen | (5-0) |
2 | Dallas Skyline | (3-1) |
3 | Spring Westfield | (5-0) |
4 | The Woodlands | (3-2) |
5 | Longview | (4-1) |
6 | Pflugerville Hendrickson | (5-0) |
7 | Lake Travis | (4-1) |
8 | Mesquite Horn | (4-1) |
9 | Sachse | (5-0) |
10 | Austin Bowie | (5-0) |
11 | Plano East | (4-1) |
12 | A&M Consolidated | (3-1) |
13 | RR Stony Point | (4-1) |
14 | Plano West | (4-1) |
15 | Kingwood | (4-0) |
Watch List: TW College Park (4-0); North Mesquite (4-0); Plano (3-1); Rockwall-Heath (4-1); Conroe Oak Ridge (5-0); Humble Atascocita (3-1)
Analyzing The Region: Allen appears to be the clear cut favorite to win the region and the state championship in Division I. But that wont come without some strong challenges. Division II is much more wide open and as early as it is, very tough to tell how things will ultimately play itself out. That said, one team to keep an eye on over the next few weeks is Pflugerville Hendrickson. This week the will draw Stony Point in the district’s second week of action. And depending on how it plays out, Mesquite Horn could also be a factor in the regional playoff picture.
Region III | ||
Team | Rec | |
1 | Katy | (5-0) |
2 | Houston Lamar | (4-0) |
3 | GP North Shore | (5-0) |
4 | Pearland | (4-0) |
5 | Alvin Manvel | (3-1) |
6 | Cypress Creek | (4-0) |
7 | FB Bush | (4-0) |
8 | Katy Cinco Ranch | (3-1) |
9 | Katy Seven Lakes | (4-0) |
10 | Cypress Fairbanks | (3-1) |
11 | Clear Creek | (4-1) |
12 | FB Elkins | (3-1) |
13 | Clear Brook | (4-1) |
14 | Port Arthur Memorial | (3-2) |
15 | Cypress Woods | (4-1) |
Watch List: Houston Westside (4-1); La Porte (3-2); Clear Falls (3-2); Cypress Springs (3-1); Alief Taylor (3-2); Clear Springs (3-2); Katy Morton Ranch (3-1)
Analyzing The Region: Much like Region II with Allen, Region III has a clear cut favorite in Katy. which in all likelihood, is headed for Division II. Division I appears to be a region that will stack up some serious heavyweights in Houston Lamar, North Shore and Pearland. Of course, we have yet to get through the majority of district play, but the track record has been set in stone for some solid games down the road. Keeping an eye on teams like Clear Creek, Cypress Woods, Alvin Manvel and La Porte in the next three weeks will be a wise choice.
Region IV | ||
Team | Rec | |
1 | Cibolo Steele | (4-1) |
2 | Smithson Valley | (5-0) |
3 | Converse Judson | (4-1) |
4 | SA Brandeis | (4-1) |
5 | SA Madison | (4-1) |
6 | SA Reagan | (4-0) |
7 | Harlingen South | (5-0) |
8 | SA O’Connor | (3-2) |
9 | SA Churchill | (3-2) |
10 | McAllen | (5-0) |
11 | Mission Sharyland | (4-0) |
12 | SA Johnson | (4-1) |
13 | Edinburg North | (4-1) |
14 | New Braunfels Canyon | (4-1) |
15 | Los Fresnos | (4-1) |
Watch List: SA Roosevelt (3-2); Weslaco (3-1); PSJA High (4-1); Harlingen (3-1); SA Warren (3-2)
Analyzing The Region: As you may expect, the road through Region IV runs through San Antonio. Expect nothing different or nothing less in the 2013 season. Cibolo Steele and Smithson Valley are the teams that have made the most noise in the region and are expected to be right in the thick of the race at the end. But watch out for how the things develop in 26-5A. Five quality teams will be battling it out for four spots in district with Reagan and Madison as the key front runners. Madison draws SA Roosevelt this week while Reagan gets SA Lee.
