Katy Taylor head coach Trey Herrmann was placed on administrative leave on Tuesday by Katy ISD until further notice. The move was first reported by Dennis Silva of the Katy Times and later confirmed by the district on Tuesday evening.

Herrmann will be replaced by assistant coach Joe Sheffy for the remainder of the season, according to the district. Sheffy is a long-time employee within the district and has a previous 15-year head coaching stint with Katy Mayde Creek that ended in 2006.
Herrmann was in his fourth season as head coach of the Mustangs, compiling a 21-14 overall record that included a 9-3 record last season. He had coached the season opener last week for Taylor, a 35-26 loss to Magnolia.
The district said in a statement on Tuesday, “Because this is a personnel matter the District is unable to provide additional information.” Katy ISD later amended that statement on Wednesday, saying the leave is “unrelated to his role with students.”
Katy Taylor takes on Fort Bend Austin on Thursday.
