The NFL announced its annual list of high school football coaches nominated by each franchise for the Don Shula NFL High School Coach of the Year Award. Per the NFL, each coach was nominated for “their character and integrity, leadership and dedication to the community, commitment to player health and safety and on-field success.”
“High school football coaches serve as role models for young athletes and their impact goes well beyond the playing field,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in a press release. “We are proud to honor this year’s nominees who embody the character, integrity and spirit of Coach Shula. Their commitment to improving the lives of students and developing young men of character is commendable.”
Highland Park head coach Randy Allen won the award last season.
In 2017, the Dallas Cowboys have nominated Frisco Lone Star head coach Jeff Rayburn. Rayburn led the Rangers to a 12-2 record in 2017, advancing to the Class 5A Division II regional finals thanks to one of the most prolific offenses in the state.

Meanwhile, the Houston Texans nominated Conroe Oak Ridge offensive line head coach Brian Fitzgerald. Under head coach Dereck Rush, Fitzgerald’s group help lead the War Eagles to a 6-0 start for the 2017 season.
Per the NFL, each coach will be recognized at the Pro Bowl in Orlando and the winner will receive a special honor during the NFL Awards on February 3 in Minneapolis.
