SOUTHLAKE, Texas — According to a Sunday report by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Carroll ISD will hold a special board meeting at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the CISD Administration Center.
The forum, confirmed by  Carroll ISD spokeperson Julie Thannum, concerns a recent self-imposed review of the football program and its head coach and football staffs operations.

“It’s really just a meeting for an update to the board in closed session, but action is always possible,” Thannum said in the report.

Hal Wasson, Southlake Carroll’s head football coach, was placed on involuntary administrative leave on Jan. 24. The Dragons reached the the state quarterfinal round of the Class 6A Division II playoffs and finished the 2017 season with 10-4 overall and 5-2 District 5 records.
The review committee found and released a report of several UIL violations. Included in those were coaching infractions and non-sanctioned summer camps held on district property.
Here are the details on a few of those violations:
  • A sixth-grade football camp for Carroll students was held at the high school on dates prohibited by the UIL. Carroll football coaches were paid to conduct the camp.
  • Football sub-varsity athletes were required to go through off-season workouts on game day, which is a UIL violation.
  • Coaches who were under contract with other districts were working with members of the Dragons football team before they officially joined the Carroll program, which is a UIL violation.

Wasson’s mandatory leave came after ISD Superintendent David Faltys communicated in an email to the Dragon Football Families a need to conduct an internal review of the program. Wasson’s attorney, Karl “Tiger” Hanner, released a statement two days later on Jan. 26.

“From the day he was hired as Head Football Coach and Boy’s Athletic Coordinator at Southlake Carroll, Coach Wasson has worked tirelessly to build a successful program founded on character, integrity and respect,” the statement read.

No details about any change to Wasson’s status have been released by the ISD.

The 61-year-old has been Southlake Carroll’s head coach for the past 11 seasons. During that timeframe, he’s amassed a 121-25 overall record and led the Dragons to 10 consecutive playoff berths since 2007.
