During a 38-20 win over Lancaster on Friday night in the Class 5A, Division I regional championship game, Marvin Mims made history breaking a Texas high school football state record that was set in 1998. Reports have it that it may not only be a state record, but a national record as well.
The Oklahoma Football pledge put up 214 yards against the Tigers to surpass the state record previous set by Stephenville’s Cody Cardwell. Cardwell’s record was 2,427 in a single season. In the win against Lancaster, Mims brought in 10 receptions and scored two touchdowns.
In his senior season, Mims has 104 catches for 2,486 yards with 31 receiving touchdowns. With a possible two more games pushing towards a state title, Mims may very well break Jordan
Shipley’s record for career receiving touchdowns set between 2000-03. Shipley’s record at Burnet is 5,424 career receiving yards. As of Friday night, Mims totals 5,242 career receiving yards. Here’s the breakdown:

36 catches for 523 yards, 4 receiving touchdowns
Sophomore Season (2017):
54 catches for 1,175 yards, 12 receiving touchdowns
Junior Season (2018):
59 catches for 1,1158 yards, 14 receiving touchdowns
