Flower Mound Marcus’ Garrett Nussmeier commits to LSU

In a video giving a shoutout to some of the great Texas high school quarterbacks that came before him, four-star junior Garrett Nussmeier released a video via Twitter announcing his commitment to LSU.

The Flower Mound Marcus High School pro-style quarterback will be returning to the state he was born in to play college football should he sign come winter. “For me the decision was just a buildup of the things I know I can do in their offense,” Nussmeier wrote in his weekly Sports Illustrated All American blog.

Nussmeier is the ninth commitment of the 2021 recruiting class to head to the Tigers in the last 10 days. Nussmeier will be joining five-star linebacker Raesjon Davis, four-star receiver Deion Smith, safety Dakota Mitchell, defensive tackle Anthony Hundley and punter Peyton Todd in a pretty great recruiting class for LSU.

Nussmeier planned to take official visits this summer and fall before coming to a decision, but COVID-19 closures disrupted that plan. With his decision to verbally commit now, the pro-style quarterback can set his eyes solely on the 2020 football season ahead.

Nussmeier attended LSU’s inaugural spring practice in March following their 2019 National Championship and the coaching staff has been vying hard for the 6-foot-1 athlete who has other offers from schools like Texas A&M, Baylor, Georgia, Kansas and more.

Nussmeier completed 67 percent of his passes in 2019 while tallying 3,788 yards and 38 touchdowns for Flower Mound Marcus. Nussmeier has a history with working against a strong defense.

Nusseier is the third commit from the state of Texas in the 2021 LSU recruiting class.
