Denton Guyer star senior Kaedric Cobbs goes on the Kelly Clarkson show

Guyer senior quarterback Kaedric Cobbs joined two other valedictorians of the class of 2020 on the Kelly Clarkson Show Thursday afternoon. Cobbs is one of several students chosen for the valedictorian title in Denton Guyer’s 2020 graduating class.

“No matter how long I play, I want to go to the NFL, but eventually my days of football are going to be over and my education is going to have to carry me the rest of the way through life and this is kind of that starting point,” Cobbs said on national television. “It means a lot to me.” Both of Cobbs’ parents are educators.

In Cobbs’ valedictorian speech, he included a quote from the late Kobe Bryant. The quote was “All negatives, pressures, and challenges are an opportunity for me to rise.” Cobbs’ intention for including this in his speech was to motivate his fellow classmates to take the negatives and pressure as an opportunity to rise and come together. His intended message is that no one is in this alone and “we can come together… not only will we get through it, but we will get better by it.”

Cobbs committed to UTSA in February where he will attend classes and play football in the Fall. He wants to pursue a Master’s degree in business finance. Cobbs was a 6A first-team all-state selection after rushing for more than 100 yards per game. Cobbs helped Guyer’s offense average 43.1 points per game and finished the 2019 season with a 14-2 record. As the leading rusher in 2019, Cobbs recorded 2,641 yards and 42 touchdowns.

Cobbs was also the recipient of the $30,000 Davey O’Brien High School Scholarship which is the oldest and most prestigious college quarterback award.
