This week brought great news for football: the first week of Texas high school football kicked off. In addition to high school football, college teams in Texas are back at practice and preparing for their first games. However, there is some bad news.
Texas A&M Commerce has canceled their entire season. Furthermore, they have opted out of any position spring football season in the Lone Star Conference.
The Lones Star conferenced canceled the fall season on August 7th and planned to play a spring season. Texas A&M Commerce was considering playing outside of the conference this fall or waiting until the spring to play. Ultimately, without a chance to compete for a championship, the Lions decided to cancel their entire season.
Last year, the Lions were 11-3. They made it to the third round of the playoffs under first-year Head Coach, David Bailiff. They were expected to improve on that season, led by a roster of mostly local former Texas high school football standouts.
