UIL NEWS: School and Coach Did Not Violate Recruitment Rules

The UIL ruled yesterday that Brownsville Jubilee Academy and Coach DeIra Glover did not violate UIL rules regarding the recruitment of student-athletes.  It was alegged that they were recruiting student-athletes and doing so for non-academic reasons. They also granted the appeal of a Boerne Champion High School, ruling that they are eligible for varsity sports, and made a second ruling upholding their decision to deny a Daingerfield High School student-athlete varsity eligibility.  Here is their full press release:

AUSTIN, TX — The State Executive Committee of the University Interscholastic League met Wednesday to hand down decisions on eligibility of student-athletes and issue penalties for UIL rule violations.

A student-athlete from Boerne Champion High School was granted an appeal for varsity eligibility. After hearing testimony from all parties, it was determined that this student did not change schools for athletic purposes.

A student-athlete from Daingerfield High School was denied an appeal for varsity eligibility, upholding the previous ruling of the district executive committee.

It was determined that Brownsville Jubilee Academy and Coach DeIra Glover did not violate UIL rules regarding recruitment of student-athletes. The State Executive Committee granted an appeal reversing the decision of the District Executive Committee.
