We asked our social media followers to nominate coaches for the Coach of the Year. We took the top 12 most nominated and created a fan vote poll. The results were our biggest landslide win of any of our fan vote award polls that we have ever done.
2020 Texas HS Football Coach of the Year:
Kent Walker, Liberty Hill
#WalkerTough
Kent Walker took over as the Head Coach in the middle of the season when his brother, Jeff Walker, passed away after a battle with cancer. Jeff Walker had coached Liberty Hill to a 38-11 record since taking over the program in 2017, and had Liberty Hill at 8-0 to start the season. Kent Walker led Liberty Hill to a 5-1 record as Head Coach, with the only loss being the last game to Crosby, 61-62. Walker led the team and community through a very difficult time and guided the Panthers to one of the best seasons in school history.
It should be noted that Kent Walker is so well thought of in the Texas high school football community, that a few coaches on the list of nominees and several assistant coaches of teams represented on this list reached out to say that Kent Walker had their vote.
