The season opener between Bridgeland and Klein Cain will be broadcast on a national stage on ESPNU on Saturday, August 28 at 8 pm CST. And, the game will showcase some star power.
Bridgeland averaged 44 points per game and are coming off a 12-1 season, winning the district 16-6A title, and losing to Rockwall Heath in the third round of the playoffs.
QB Conner Weigman
The Bears will be led on the field this season by senior quarterback Conner Weigman, a 5-star prospect and a finalist at the Elite 11 Quarterback Competition.
A two-sport star, Weigman is committed to play for Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies of Texas A&M. In 2020, Weigman passed for 3803 yards and 42 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, leading the highest classification in Texas in passing yards. He also added 581 yards rushing and nine more scores.
Against Kelin Cain in last year’s season opener, Weigman accounted for 521 total yards and six touchdowns, three passing and three rushing, in a 49-42 win. The Bears defense made big plays when they had to, recovering three fumbles, intercepting two passes, and recording five sacks.
RB Jaydon Blue
Klein Cain will be without their star running back Jaydon Blue, who announced he would skip his senior year…of high school. It’s possible he could change his mind.
Blue, 5-11, 205, rushed for 2155 yards and 30 touchdowns in 2020. He had six games of over 200 yards rushing and five games with 3 rushing touchdowns. His high game last year was 253 yards and five touchdowns in a 53-38 win over Tomball. Against Bridgeland in 2020, Blue rushed for 234 yards and 2 touchdowns in a loss.
He was named the district 15-6A Offensive MVP and has committed to play for the Texas Longhorns.
