The playoffs are upon us. In a round-one matchup, Spring will take on The Woodlands on Friday night at Wood Forest Stadium.

Spring Offense

The Lions (9-1) have allowed just 19 points scored against them in their last 5 games, outscoring those opponents 247-19.

Spring has averaged 49 points per game on offense over the 10-game regular season, and they allowed just nine points per game on defense. They are coming off a 65-13 rout of Houston MacArthur last Friday night.

Spring QB Bishop Davenport

The engine that drives this scoring machine is QB Bishop Davenport. He has passed for over 3100 yards and 43 touchdowns and 4 INTs. He has also rushed for 470 yards, which leads the team. He has scored six TDs on the ground. According to 247sports, Davenport is committed to Utah State.

Davenport’s receiving corps is loaded:

  • Travis Sims: 48 catches, 861 yards, and nine TDs.
  • Cadyn Bradley: 46 catches, 798 yards, and 10 touchdowns.
  • Braylen Martin: 29 catches, 436 yards, 6 touchdowns.
  • Isaiah Johnson: 29 catches, 389 yards, and 6 TDs.

When Davenport isn’t running the ball, RB Myron Carter is capable. He has 447 yards and five touchdowns on the season.

On defense, Spring is led by Darryl Doherty (53 tackles, 10 TFLs, 1 sack, 1 INT), Bruce Davis (46 tackles, 3 TFLs), and Jeffrey Foster (4 INTs).

Spring has a 1-2 record against the Highlanders, their lone win coming last year in a 42-21 victory.

The Woodlands

The Highlanders (8-2) are on a 6-game winning streak and are coming off a 45-14 win over The Woodlands College Park.

 Offense

In that game, QB Mabrey Mettauer completed 12 of 15 passes (80%) for 183 yards and a touchdown (to Tobin Miller). He also added 91 rushing yards and a touchdown.

For the season, Mettauer has passed 1922 yards, 22 TDs, 3 INTs, and has 393 yards rushing and 13 touchdowns. He has two games of over 300 yards passing, three games with four passing touchdowns, and two games with three passing TDs.

The Highlanders rushing attack is led by Jobarre Reed, who has rushed for 893 yards and 10 touchdowns. Reed rushed 19 times for 124 yards and 2 touchdowns in the win over College Park.

Mettauer’s primary target has been Ben Ferguson, who has caught 40 balls for 917 yards and 12 touchdowns.
